Alpes Znchres auction house in Chambery, in collaboration with our experts specialized in free valuation and free appraisal will auction a French late 17th century wooden sculpture, Tusday 30 th September in Chambery.

 

VIERGE A L'ENFANT

France méridionale, probablement Rouergue ou Auvergne

Fin XVII / début XVIIIe siècle

Bois sculpté et polychromé.

Importante Vierge à l'Enfant en ronde-bosse, conservant une grande partie de sa polychromie ancienne. La frontalité de la composition, les visages aux grands yeux en amande, les plis simplifiés du manteau et les proportions volontairement archaïsantes témoignent de la permanence des modèles romans dans la statuaire religieuse populaire du Massif central. L'Enfant, présenté nu, tient le globe terrestre, symbole de sa souveraineté sur le monde.

Usures, restaurations, traces d'insectes xylophages, fentes et petits manques.
